About
Nakwangtalungva!
My name is Cynthia Begay, and I am the Hopi Girl behind Hopi Girl Silver! I am Qalwungwa (Sun Forehead clan) from the village of Sipaulovi, Second Mesa. I am also born for the Navajo and Mexican people.
I come from a family of weavers, pottery makers, carvers, and silversmiths from both my Hopi and Navajo family. I work with silver to keep the memory of my ancestors alive. I grew up with my Shimasani (Navajo grandmother) and Ba'ah (Hopi grandfather) making traditional Navajo and Hopi jewelry.
Two generations from the last weaver, carver, pottery maker, and silversmith: I am the only one in my family who is currently carrying on the tradition of silversmithing. I hope to carry on the art of expression through silver just like my grandmothers and grandfathers before me.
Asqwali,
